DE CHARVILLE FRERES XO 40%
New kid on the block (bis)
We continue with this brand and this time with their XO, a 15-25yo Grande Champagne. Let’s try this De Charville Frères XO!
Colour: Orange, gold lights. Medium regular tears
.Nose: Full of orange perfume. Orange juice particularly. Heady smells of orange blossom and dark chocolate. Verbena infusion too. Woody and citrusy. Grapefruit and tangerine jam. Tinned pears. Candied plums. A nice fruitiness.
Palate : Sweet texture. Fig jam, licorice sweets, tinned pears. A great sugariness. A little of roasted hazelnuts. Short/medium mouth length. Lemongrass. and some candied citruses on the aftertaste. A tad of tannic aromas. A bit disappointing compared to the nose.
Last Notes: Apple juice. Orange blossom. Tangerine juice. Nice candied notes. A little on caramel and chestnut cream. Shy buttery notes on the palate. A little of chocolate notes too. It ends on bitter chocolate and a tad of spiciness.
A nice one, especially for the nose part. But why 40 %? A little too imprecise to reach the 86 points mark. Less convincing than a Paul Giraud Fin du Siècle (Grande Champagne, 20yo, 43,5%) for example.
My very subjective note: 85+/100
