Vallein Tercinier Lot 58 P.C Journal des Kirsch 51,6%
Majestic P.C
Second Kirsch Import bottling review on Hors d’Age after the JLP Fins Bois Lot 68-72. This time it’s a 64yo Petite Champagne selected in Vallein Tercinier’s cellars and bottled at cask strength (51,6%). Let’s go!
Colour: Amber, gold lights. Irregular heavy tears.
Nose: Crazy tropical nose. Full of fresh banana smells at first. Reminding me a lot of the Penderyn Ex-Bourbon 2007-2019 exotic side, even more with almond paste notes. Heavy nutty/fruity mix, heady almond and pistachio scents. Umami tea-ish scents. Amaretto, roasted bananas. It can’t cease its evolution. Stunning nose part.
Palate: Syrupy texture. Acidulous rancio with nutty shades. Coconut oil, blackcurrant juice, white truffle. Too many things at the same time. It’s mushroomy while giving an incredible fruitiness without forgetting to deliver a massive amount of freshness on white pepper and cardamom. Still great notes of pistachio and almond. Panettone, gingerbread. Unreal mouth length with gorgeous red berry notes and cooked plums, something like a mix between New Zealand Pinot Noir and dry Maury.
Last Notes: Obvious P.C/G.C chalky notes. Old leather scents. A tad of yeasty tones too. Briny, salty with soy sauce umami shades. Back on the palate, you get a full spoon of cinnamon and caramelized apple. Nice bitter chocolate aromas in the aftertaste. It ends on almond paste and roasted sesame seeds.
I can’t disagree with Serge on this one. It has to be close to 93. Discrete oak structure, marvelous expression of aromas, great evolution through the tasting. Everything is here.
My very subjective note: 92/100
