Hints of Tenareze

Second Ladeveze, and third Row Spirits on Hors d’Age. This one is a 19yo Tenareze bottled at 54%. And about the grapes? 100% Plant de Graisse. It seems that we’ve got another UDO (Unknown Distilled Object) here… Let’s go!

Colour: Dark amber, orange lights. Irregular heavy tears.

Nose: Intense heady perfume. Stunning mix of exotic notes and vivid citrus scents. Sunny melon notes melted with orange-zest jam shades. Quite impressive. You also get some blackcurrant juice notes in the background and hints of various red fruit scents. Rich and promising nose for sure.

Palate: Extra-oily texture. Wow. Massive acidulous notes on overripe mango and fresh pineapple. Noticeable wood influence in the aftertaste, but it’s still reasonable regarding the amount of fruitiness you get. Hints of fresh coffee beans aromas. Great mouth length by the way, and relevant ABV in my humble opinion.

Last Notes: Full of quince jam with air. This nose part has something you can find in any armagnac. Earthy French Indies rum notes. Salted shades on black olive tapenade. Noble wood scents too. Back on the palate, you find a wonderful mix of cooked herbs: tarragon, parsley, bay leaf. You also get hints of musky notes, all these clues remembering me of the rancio you can get in some old Bons Bois. It ends with great briny aromas.

Another atypical armagnac unearthed by ROW Spirits. That’s a really nice Tenareze, opulent and developing many shades of aromas. Perfect oak influence and what a kind of rancio for a young (19yo) armagnac!

My very subjective note: 89/100
